The
Districts primary purpose is to provide economically affordable irrigation
water to our member lands. As part of that effort, we provide Central Arizona
Project (CAP) water from the Colorado River to irrigated farmlands within the
District. We also wheel a small amount of municipal and industrial water from
the CAP, through our distribution system, on behalf of commercial water users
in the Casa Grande/Coolidge area.
We
began receiving CAP water for distribution to our members in 1988 and, since
that time, we have delivered approximately 700,000 acre-feet or, over 228
Billion gallons, of this very valuable commodity to those member lands.
Unlike other irrigation districts in the area, we do not control or operate
any irrigation wells. These wells are owned and operated by our individual
agricultural members, which are regulated by the Arizona Department of Water
Resources.
All
activities of the District are conducted to further the primary purpose for
which it was formed.
Our
member lands are billed by the Pinal County Assessor annually for irrigation
taxes to cover the fixed costs of the District and we bill our members
directly for water, which is scheduled to be delivered to them.
